Superman the Movie Mobile Slot Review
Say what you will about the new Superman movies, but they just lack the goofy charm of the classics. It was the era where somehow a wardrobe change and putting on a pair of glasses was all you needed to disguise your superhero identity. Then again, the actor portrays a slightly goofy idiot so convincingly, you’d honestly be baffled to find out it really is Superman under there. Given how popular they used to be, it’s no surprise that this movie was selected to be part of the Playtech’s series of slots based around DC Comics super heroes. After all, most of the recent movies also saw themselves made into games – there was no reason to leave out the very best among the bunch!
Superman the Movie offers gamblers a 5×3 playing field with 100 fixed paylines. There are also two special features in this slot that gamblers can use for their advantage. The first of which is a point and click bonus that you win by scoring Bonus symbols on the second, third and fourth reel at the same time. This lets you pick between several shards of ice, which can reveal instant cash wins, 5x or 2x multipliers on already collected wins, reshuffle which restarts the bonus while letting you keep all your wins, Kryptonite that ends the feature and the Superman icon that removes Kryptonite, guaranteeing a reshuffle. The second bonus is a more traditional free spins bonus that occurs when the Nuclear Bomb lands on the first, third and fifth reel. Press the red button and Superman will spring to action, rewarding you with 10 free spins where all Wilds remain locked in place. At the end of the bonus, Superman turns back time and rewards you with ten more extra turns, which is a fun gimmick to make the actually twenty free spins feel more special and tied in with the lore of the movie.
How to Play Superman the Movie
The game does its best to push forward a look similar to the movie itself. You have a gorgeous backdrop of Earth as seen from space, while on the reels themselves you can find several characters from the movie, a few more icons borrowed such as the Daily Planet news station and the green Kryptonite chunk you see in the movie, and a few letters done in a similar colour scheme. The graphics won’t blow anyone away, but they look rather nice, and our only nitpick is the presence of the letters themselves, which feel out of place when placed against everything else.
On the gameplay side of things, you’re going to have to wait for Superman to swoop in and save the day during the free spins. As much as we’d love to say that normal gameplay is also a blast, it really isn’t. Not when you compare it to sticky Wilds that you get during free spins. Base game feels somewhat boring, and while that is a bit disappointing, both the features offered and the promise of four different progressive jackpots will no doubt keep players interested in revisiting this old classic starring Christopher Reeds.
