The upbeat music, the fancy outfits. The lights, the glitz, the glamour, all in the exotic land of the Far East. Nowhere has the economic boom of China been visible more than in Shanghai, which has become a global financial centre, the busiest transport hub in the world, and a major administrative city for China. Its impressive economic and trading potential was recognized even back in the colonial era, but it took the economic reforms not twenty to thirty years ago to really make it into the powerhouse you see today. And with all that wealth the prestige and glamour of a high life have come, which we see celebrated in the RTG’s 2018 release aimed for the Asian market.

Shanghai Lights offers gamblers a 5×3 playing field with 50 flexible paylines, meaning you can turn them on and off at will. The slot has a single special feature, relating to its free spins, which chains into the game’s signature Super Spins. It lives up to the high volatility expectations needed of it, and if you want to play it, we recommend being real lucky. Not only do you need plenty of it to get the free spins to hit, but you need to hit additional Scatters once there, both to increase the meagre amount of extra turns you get and to spice up the Super Spins so you can get more out of them.

How to Play Shanghai Lights

We have to commend RTG, they caught up quite a bit when it comes to graphics. They used to be way behind the curve, where their titles looked more like games from 2010, but their latest releases seem to be doing a lot to bring them up to speed. The user interface has also seen a slight facelift, which we like. It’s much more stylish while keeping the clear labels of where everything is, so gamblers won’t have any issue getting around. The only downside we can see is the obviously looping music, which gets boring after a bit.

On the gameplay side of things, Shanghai Lights offers a medium to high volatility playstyle, which means that most of the win revolves around the free spins and Super Spins. Free spins only reward you with five extra turns, so you need to get Scatter pays during those extra turns. This will reward you with additional free spins, but it will also unlock additional rewards for the duration of the Super Spin feature, such as guaranteeing certain reels will be Wild and increasing the multiplier on Scatter and Wild pays. To unlock all of these extras for Super Spins, you need five Scatter wins during free spins, which is remarkably difficult to do.

Jackpots & Progressives

Shanghai Nights gives gamblers a 96% RTP, and a whopping 50,000 coin prize as a maximum jackpot you can win, which probably beats several other progressive jackpots at times! And considering you can play it for as little as $0.01, that’s certainly an eye-catching thought. Even more so if you have the guts and pockets to play it at the maximum bet of $50 per spin. Our personal recommendation would be to not turn off any of the paylines and to bring a sizeable stack of cash to act as your balance. It takes a long time to activate the free spins feature and while the potential is high, the likelihood you’ll get away with it is probably not that great. So if you’re looking to chase the dragon and make off like a bandit, you better make sure you’re real lucky. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself penniless and unprepared to take on the Shanghai night life.

Bonus Games & Sign-ups
