It’s not often that we find a slot that’s love at first sight. But that’s what happened between us and this game! It has a terrific theme, and amazing special features that make it very enjoyable to play. It’s a collaboration between Microgaming and Crazy Tooth Studio, and it’s a slam dunk success! Hats off to both developers, they deserve it!
Queen of the Crystal Rays is a gorgeous release set in an otherworldly environment. It is played on a 6×4 board, which expands to 6×8 when a special feature triggers. In the same vein, the standard 25 fixed paylines increase to 50 during the bonus. Wins are awarded in any adjacent position, not just left to right or right to left.
Available special features include Wild multipliers, the Crystal Ray bonus and the Queen of the Crystal Rays bonus. The Crystal Ray special feature activates randomly, and expands the playing field while lasers add entire rows of Wilds. Meanwhile, the Queen bonus grants four free spins during which cash values appear and are granted via crystal rays.
How to Play Queen of the Crystal Rays
We knew we’d love the graphics when we first triggered the Crystal Rays special feature. Seeing the reels twist and expand, and the queen floating in front of us before disappearing looked fantastic! Not to mention how great the actual lasers themselves look as they transform regular symbols into Wilds. This whole slot is absolutely beautiful.
Sadly, we can’t quite say the same for the icons! They’re not bad, but they’re hardly memorable. They fit the theme of being crystals, if nothing else. Still, it’s quite obvious their only goal is to get transformed into Wilds or serve as colourful filler. Very basic design compared to everything else.
The game has a medium variance, which was a pleasant surprise. We expected a higher volatility, but we’re not complaining in the slightest! Just the opposite, in fact. The lower variance makes playing this Microgaming release a lot more enjoyable. And great gameplay is the first half of a successful slot. What’s the other, you might ask?

Randomly, the reel will zoom out and the Crystal Ray special feature activates. One or more arrows off to the side of the reels activate, shooting lasers through the reels. Any symbols except prisms that are touched by the ray transform into Wilds. Prisms divert the ray depending on the angle at which they’re hit.
If a ray passes through 2x Multiplier Wild, it will spread that Wild instead of the standard one.
Queen of the Crystal Reels triggers when three or more Scatters appear. It awards 4 free spins during which crystal rays fire along a set path. The rays will connect with cash prizes, and their sum is added to the player’s balance. These prizes can be multiplied up to 5x.
