We’ll admit, ancient China has always been a weak spot of ours. Peking Luck is a Chinese-themed video slot that offers gamblers a 5×3 playing field with 25 fixed paylines which award wins when the winning combination is completed left to right. Wilds are the bread and butter of special features and this one works exactly as you would expect it – it can replace any symbol except for Scatters and it’s the highest paying icon in the entire game. The extra advantage to Wilds is that all wins that Wild is a part of will receive a 2x multiplier. On top of that, we have the free spins bonus activated when gamblers collect three or more Scatters. Before the feature starts, players pick one of six random objects to reveal a random number of free spins and then another six random objects to reveal a random multiplier that applies to the total win of every free turn. The 2x multiplier from Wilds stacks with the random multiplier. If you win three or more Scatters, you retrigger the bonus, which rewards 10 extra free spins with the current multiplier. There’s no limit to how many times you can reactivate the bonus.
How to play Peking Luck
While we like old Chinese history, we can’t say we’re particularly impressed with the graphics offered here. They’re clean, crisp and easy to grasp, but they don’t really do anything interesting. The backdrop image is non-existent, as the whole playing field is covered by the reels and its mono-colour background. The symbols are a mixture of playing card icons like 9, 10, J, Q, K and A which haven’t even been stylized to fit and unique Chinese symbols like golden coins with a red string, a pink fan, golden-red drums, a dragon’s head and a theatre mask. None of the icons have any fun or interesting animations, either. Peking Luck also uses the same Pragmatic Play user interface as their other titles, which is easy to navigate and use. This is a definite plus in favour of the title.
Peking Luck is a high variance video slot, making it very feature reliant. If you don’t enjoy long stretches of minor wins or no wins at all, we can say for a fact you won’t enjoy this title. However, once everything lines up and you get a colossal win or a burst of large wins, it’s worth all the waiting you’ve done so far. That said, with its variance, make sure you budget your bets accordingly. You don’t want to run out just before your lucky streak is about to start, after all. The game’s RTP is 96.5%, which is above average for video slots.
