Humpty Dumpty Mobile Slot Review
Slots based on childhood nursery rhymes are few and far between, but in the quest for new ideas, it seems developers will stop at nothing. Not that we can really complain when it’s done well enough – we’d never have expected the tragic fall of our young egg-shaped protagonist to really reflect in the gameplay of a slot, but someone far more creative than us in Push Gaming showed us that it could be done. But little, creative details are only part of this puzzle.
The whole story is that Humpty Dumpty is a 5-reel game with 25 paylines, offering gamblers a traditional free spins bonus wrapped up in a less than traditional way to trigger it – though not so radical as to get rid of the Scatter! Wilds appear all across the reels, and slowly slide down spot by spot until they disappear from the playing field, allowing you to milk a single win several times, or potentially set up a new one as that single reel adjusts to Wild sliding down, while the rest stay in place. And, of course, once the free spins are up and running, you can collect little egg pieces to create full reel Wilds that stay locked in place for the whole duration of the bonus.
How to Play Humpty Dumpty
The art style is really a bit odd. It’s a clear blend of a more children’s book approach to drawing, but it doesn’t really come off as childish or cutesy. And the portraits of human (and equine) characters are so well done that you could almost read off their personalities just by a single glance at them. We don’t know who was in charge of art and design for Humpty Dumpty, but they’ve done a good job at bringing the characters to life, without even a single spoken word of dialogue. Of course, all that effort’s a bit wasted when they add in generic poker card symbols, but we’ll take what we can get.
That said, Humpty Dumpty is one of the more enjoyable middle variance games we’ve had the pleasure of playing this whole year. It’s not too slow to build up, and it seems to constantly alternate between small losing streaks and decent winnings – nothing mind blowing in either direction. We honestly feel that this approach might be the solution for Microgaming’s issue of fusing high variance gameplay with prizes that don’t nearly match up to such high risks and long playing times. A more relaxed, casual approach like in this slot is one we’d like to see more often.

So while there isn’t a progressive jackpot in Microgaming’s release, there’s also not a clearly defined path to riches like there usually is. Of course, the free spins is usually a safe bet, and we’ve gotten a solid 24x our wager from it, but we’ve just as equally gotten out with a really small win of around 5x to 7x, too. In the same breath, while most of our spins were minor scores or losses, we occasionally managed a big win or two, with one moving Wild and a bunch of kings or queens really setting us up for a treat. This sort of approach keeps it rather enjoyable, as you’re not just feeling like you’re wasting time spinning to trigger a feature.
