Giovanni’s Gems Mobile Slot Review
We often drone on about low paytables and how they negatively impact titles, but we don’t think we encountered a title that managed to sidestep the issue all together while at the same time made us wish for better paytables even more. Giovanni’s Gems is the newest release from Betsoft, played on a 7×7 reel where wins don’t follow a regular paytable, but instead come in clusters of five and more, and it can go even above twenty five symbols in a win. That said, most of the time you’ll be sitting at wins ranging from five to ten icons, with the occasional coal turned to gem to break it up and the cascading reels to keep the re-spins going, which chains wins together.
And while we often praise visuals of the newest titles, this slot in particular grabbed us immediately. It looks so satisfying to watch the gemstones fall in place and then explode to make room for new ones when a winning combination appears. It has some cool animations too, but even when they’re turned off in quick spin, it still keeps the charm. Everything is loud, glowy, bombastic even! The feeling of just playing the game is amazing, and it should be something more developers should try to recreate. Our only complaint visually is Giovanni himself. He doesn’t look too good, might need to see a doctor. We’ll just… pocket all these gems… for safekeeping!
And it’s Giovanni symbol that also acts as a Scatter. Five or more Giovanni present on the reels trigger the free spins, which can go for 7 spins, or a whopping 50 extra turns if you get more than 25 Scatters active all at once. To make it even better, Giovanni also pays a cash reward when he’s active, which is a pretty nice bonus. However, once the free spins are active, they can’t be retriggered.
How to Play Giovanni’s Gems
Our personal suggestion is to just load Autoplay for one hundred spins at the lowest wager and watch the gems explode! It’s a fantastic thing to watch, although odds are by the end of it all, you’ll be in a slight minus compared to what you started off with. The wins do look fabulous, and they come in often, but we could comfortably stick the picture of Giovanni’s Gems next to the definition of a low variance slot. Although the title has some winning potential, especially during the free spins round, for most of the game, you’ll be bleeding money, especially if you turn quick spins on. This means when you get it back, it’s all more satisfying, but your wins won’t pile up to be that much.
Still, we stand by what we said. Despite the lowered paytable, this is an insanely fun title to play. We think Betsoft is well aware of this too, considering they put it front and centre all over the place as their newest slot to show off all over.
Jackpots & Progressives
While there’s no progressive jackpot in sight, we can’t help but feel a bit let down by the paytable. The largest single jackpot would be for twenty five or more gemstones and it comes out to about 100x your wager. It was a good indicator that free spins would be the way a lot of players came out ahead, rather than a single win.
And from what we’ve experienced, we can confirm the extra turns help a lot. For one, they activate the gemstones immediately rather than requiring an adjacent win to get them to appear from coal, which allows them to appear much more liberally on the playing field. Unless you have a fierce streak of bad luck, you will usually average about 30x your wager with free spins.
Bonus Games & Sign-ups
Beyond the free spins special feature, there’s little for bonus games going on in Giovanni’s Gems. Still, we don’t feel this is a bad thing. With the rolling reels, re-spins after every win and free spins themselves, there’s plenty to amuse gamblers.
