One of our favourite themes is retro-futurism. It started with the Alien movies, and spiralled from there out of fascination and a general appreciation for the design. There is something interesting in seeing what people from the past thought the future would be like. So, when we heard the NetEnt release would cover a 1960’s retro-futuristic theme with a focus on robots, we patiently waited for it to finally come out. Now that we finally have it in our hands, was it worth the wait?

Wild-O-Tron 3000 is a robot-themed video slot which offers players a 5×3 playing field with 20 fixed paylines. This means gamblers cannot choose to turn some or all paylines off in order to lower their minimum bet. Payouts are awarded for connecting three or more symbol of a kind from left to right following the 20 active paylines. The game only has one special feature that creates additional Wilds on the playing field.

How to play Wild-O-Tron 3000

We love the graphics. The varying robot designs show just about every type you could imagine. Some look run-down like they have seen much better days, while others look sleek and brand new.  The background image shows a factory in desperate need of some maintenance, as everything looks a little rusty. But our favourite part of the visuals is the paytable. A pair of doors will seal and a projector will display all the information like some kind of fancy PowerPoint presentation. Symbol animations are serviceable, but they are not as amazing as we have seen in some other NetEnt releases. It is a shame, but we think that mostly comes down to the developers not being sure how to make the robots do anything interesting.

Symbols include several types of robots. They all have a generally humanoid shape and are split into a head, body and ‘legs’. These icons will usually appear stacked, but you can sometimes come across a lonely robot part detached from the rest of its body and in need of reassembling. A silver robot represents the Wild symbol, which can substitute for all other icons.

The title has low to medium volatility. That means small, frequent pays will be the core of its gameplay, with a very rare jackpot to occasionally change things up a little. The slot has only one bonus, and it appears quite frequently. However, while it is easy to trigger, the results are not always great.
