While Norse mythology has always been popular, for a lot of people, names like Loki and Thor will bring up the popular Marvel movies and their takes on the characters. While Marvel movies have yet to properly portray the sheer lunacy and badassery of Norse mythology and its many tales, the movies offer a signal boost for people who may never have heard of these characters or stories otherwise. Just a brief recap in case you need it, Asgard is the home of all Norse deities and warriors chosen worthy by the Valkyries, who spend their days drinking and fighting in preparation for the end of the world, or Ragnarok, when hellspawn will pour out onto the world and prompt the need for many soldiers to come down from Asgard to shove them back into the pits the demons escaped from.
The Pragmatic Play release offers a 5×3 playing field with 25 fixed paylines, paying left to right. It also has four random features that can be activated at any given time. They are also integrated into the free spins bonus as well. Playing card symbols will transform into Wilds at the end of a spin, random reels will transform into full reel Wilds, stacked mystery symbols may appear and transform into one symbol, or Wilds may rain down onto the playing field to add three, four or five Wilds. If no wins occur after these random features happen, the game pays a consolation prize of 1x. Collecting three or more Scatters rewards 5 free spins and one of these four random features are also selected to be played for the duration of these extra turns. Overall, there are a lot of chances for you to get familiar with the special features Asgard offers – you just need to be patient to activate them.
How to play Asgard
We do wish you could see more of the backdrop because it does hint at something gorgeous. A running waterfall falling from atop a large castle behind which the sun itself scorches down onto the forested land beneath. Anything more is, unfortunately, obscured by the reels, but what you can find on the playing field is also interesting. We have to wonder if Pragmatic Play reached out to Disney to score the likeness of the characters, or, more likely, made them just different enough that they could argue it was simply their take on things. It’s probably the latter, because Thor and Loki while sporting slightly different faces, look like they broke into Marvel’s costume room and made off with the ones used for the movies.
Asgard shows the gameplay of a feature chaser, but thanks to its low to medium volatility and four different bonuses that are activated at random, the bonuses more often than not end up coming to you, though with less than stellar results, we have to admit. Their scores seem to get better once you include the free spins and we don’t mean simply because you don’t lose cash for its duration, but we’re not sure if that’s by design or simply our luck. Either way, with the bonuses available both during normal gameplay and during free spins, you’re never too long without seeing one of them in action.

Asgard has no progressive jackpots, though it does have some solidly fixed jackpots once everything lines up right. Thanks to the fact several bonuses increase the number of Wilds on the reels, the odds of connecting solid wins are increased, so these features are usually the most lucrative ones, in our opinion.
