Mythology is always a good way to draw people in. Ideas of gods, monsters, good and evil and the many shades of grey that lie between those two fills our daily lives with something far away to occupy our mind, something to escape our own existence and daydream about. Greek mythology in particular is quite popular, spread many times over thanks to notable conquerors such as Alexander the Great, and later on, ripped off by the Romans to form their own pantheon. Their worship has, like many other pagan religions, been stamped out once Christianity came to the scene a few hundred years later, but the ideas still exist, and make for good slots.
The Playtech’s release is another entry into the Age of the Gods series, which has built itself from Greek mythology. The reels are set up in a 6-7-6-7-6-7 format, upon which the higher paying symbols can appear stacked including Wild and Scatter as well. Landing three stacked Scatters on the reel two, four and six at the same time will activate the Medusa’s Gaze free spins. At the start of the feature, you pick between three shields, which hide Cerberus, the Minotaur and Lamia. The shield is then moved, revealing which symbol lay beneath and for the duration of the free spins, Medusa will freeze that stacked icon on the playing field. Medusa herself, as expanded Wild, will also start walking from the sixth reel towards the first, every spin moving her once to the left. If she walks over any frozen symbol, that icon is released. The free spins end once Medusa reaches the first reel, marking a total of 5 free spins with no means of retriggering the bonus.
How to Play Age of the Gods Medusa & Monsters
We were somewhat let down by the visuals here. Playtech has shown in the last year or two that they can produce some good looking titles, but this one really misses the mark. We don’t know if they pushed for a somewhat older look on purpose or not. The symbols look dated and small on a phone screen because of the large reels and the animations on the icons are somewhat boring. The cheapest bit is the rolling waves on the bottom of the reels, which loop very obviously, even more so if you go into the paytable and see the static background and just that one area with the constantly repeating wave animation that’s not even any good.
While artists may have taken a field day, the developers seem to still keep their golden touch. The title has an RTP of 96.09%, slightly above average for slots, and a medium to high volatility that you’d come to expect from progressive slots. The whole thing plays slow and most wins you’ll get will be relatively bland, slowly bleeding money until the feature swings around to save the day. The title also incentivizes you to bet bigger, because it increases the odds with which a progressive jackpot may be activated, which is standard practice in all Age of the Gods slots.

There are four progressive jackpots, all of which are activated at random. The progressive jackpot feature can be awarded during any spin, and the only thing that affects the likelihood is the size of your wager – the bigger it is, the more likely the feature is to activate. Once active, you are presented with a 4×5 playing field filled with coins. Clicking a coin reveals it connected with one of the four progressive jackpots. Collect three identical coins, and you are rewarded with that progressive jackpot as a result.
